Offshore wind energy is becoming an essential part of the global energy transition, and EDP Renewables is leading this trend. The Moray East project is an enormously important venture and a milestone in the financing of renewable energy worldwide.
The award for EMEA Wind Deal of the Year 2018 was presented to EDPR’s Moray East project at the inaugural Proximo European Exchange. This event, which focused on the areas of European infrastructure, energy and projects, took place in Lisbon on May 30 and 31.
Attendees included EU government representatives, transportation network operators, project developers, regulators, energy companies, investors, insurance professionals and consultants, who discussed the challenges of European infrastructure development, renewable energy assets and the development of a global energy system.
Portugal’s Minister for the Environment and Energy Transition, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, opened the conference, highlighting the fact that the country is on track to be sustained solely by renewable energy. He also stated that electricity has assumed a prominent role when it comes to eliminating dependence on products derived from fossil fuels.
Various discussion panels occurred throughout the day, with Financial Director João Pedro Summavielle representing EDP Renewables. The topics addressed included new strategies to respond to ambitious goals for renewable energy capacity.
