EDP Renewables North America Announces Partnership with the National FFA Organization

Thursday 13, June 2024

The partnership will support FFA’s Local Engagement Program, Resources for Work Force Development at agexplorer.ffa.org, Supervised Agricultural Experience Grants, and more.

Indianapolis, Indiana, June 13, 2024  EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA), a leading renewable energy developer and a top five renewable energy owner and operator in the United States, is proud to announce it has partnered with the National FFA Organization (FFA) to support the future of American agriculture and their mission of educating students through hands-on learning to become tomorrow’s leaders.

With more than 945,988 members across 9,163 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, FFA is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. FFA aids the next generation of farmers, biologists, chemists, veterinarians, and engineers by cultivating their own unique talents and exploring their interests in a broad range of agricultural career pathways.

In a move to further support the dozens of communities that EDPR NA serves through its renewable energy generation, the company is now sponsoring FFA as a Five Star Partner in 2024 to empower the Organization to make a greater positive impact across the country. EDPR NA will support FFA’s Local Engagement Program for Chapter Financial Assistance, which directly funds FFA chapters nationwide. These funds help individual chapters obtain new equipment, take part in new experiences, and achieve their goals for their educators and students.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders, and EDPR NA’s support of FFA’s educational opportunities will ensure they are ready to meet the needs of the changing agricultural landscape,” said Scott Stump, CEO, National FFA Organization/Foundation. “This partnership will provide financial assistance to local chapters across the country supporting skill development in environmental science and natural resource systems, leadership training, career pathways establishment, and much more.”

EDPR NA’s sponsorship also includes support of the Resources for Work Force Development at https://agexplorer.ffa.org/, which will help educate the next generation of leaders to lead by example, act responsibly, and create solutions to change the world. The program helps students prepare for the workforce at all levels by revealing available careers and providing them with opportunities to develop critical skills and enhance industry knowledge. The Ag Explorer program has seen more than 12 million views over the past six years.

"EDPR NA and FFA share the same core values of cultivating the next generation of students to lead the way in creating a more sustainable future,” noted Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America. “At EDPR NA, we recognize the vital role that farmers all across America play in empowering the renewable energy industry. Through FFA’s programs, we’re making sure these students are prepared to meet the needs of the modern renewable energy workforce.”

The partnership will also include support for the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Grants, which provide students with hands-on experiential projects leading them on a path of personal growth and career skill development. EDPR NA will directly open doors for students in the Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Natural Resources Systems career path by bringing their individually funded projects to life. Environmental Science projects will be centered around the study of systems, instruments, and technology used to monitor and minimize the impact of human activity on environmental systems.

The EDPR NA-sponsored Natural Resource Systems projects aim to manage, protect, enhance, and improve soil, water, wildlife, forests, and air as natural resources—all of which are vital to the development of 21st-century renewable energy facilities.

In addition to supporting STEM education in agricultural regions through its support of FFA, EDPR NA also sponsors the National 4H Council and a variety of K-12 education programs ranging from KidWind to REpowering Schools and the Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation
