Ganapathy joins the board to further the organization’s commitment to bolstering the business value proposition behind renewables
Washington, DC, January 16, 2024 — EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA), a leading renewable energy developer and a top five renewable energy owner and operator in the United States, has announced Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO, EDP Renewables NA, has joined the Board of Directors for the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE). Ganapathy’s decades of strategic leadership in the finance and renewable energy sectors, combined with EDPR NA’s recent industry successes in the U.S. make her a welcome addition to the Board.
The American Council on Renewable Energy is a national non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the transition to a clean energy economy. ACORE brings together leaders from various sectors to promote and advance renewable energy through policy, financial, and technological initiatives. The organization plays a critical role in shaping the renewable energy landscape in the United States, advocating for pro-business policies that foster innovation, drive investment, and contribute to a sustainable energy future for all.
Ganapathy is committed through her appointment to support programming focused on diversity as well as expanding Board engagement with the multitude of companies that make up ACORE’s membership.

Ganapathy during her tenure as CEO of EDP Renewable North America has demonstrated a strong commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure and promoting sustainable energy production in the United States. EDPR NA is leading the U.S. domestic energy transition having developed over 9.6 GW of renewables projects to date and generating close to 9 GW of renewable energy annually across the country, equivalent to powering more than 2 million homes. EDPR NA operates 60 wind farms, 12 utility-scale solar parks, and has a robust energy storage pipeline including solar + storage projects and a focus on hydrogen. EDPR NA Distributed Generation, the distributed generation arm of EDP Renewables in North America, manages over 537 active renewable energy sites totaling 290 MW. The company has created more than 1,100 permanent jobs, invested over $17 billion in capital for local communities, and avoided more than 24 billion pounds of carbon emissions.
