Madrid, 26 February 2018: EDP Renewables (Euronext: EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world’s largest wind energy producers, through its fully owned subsidiary EDP Renewables North America LLC, has secured a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (“PPA”) with Great Plains Energy to sell the energy produced by the 200 MW Prairie Queen wind farm.

Prairie Queen wind farm is located in Allen County, Kansas, where operations are scheduled to commence in 2019.

Through this new arrangement, EDPR will expand its footprint in Kansas to a total of 600 MW. The company has already locked down 1.5 GW in long-term agreements in the US for projects to be installed through 2016-2020, which represents 82% of the 1.8 GW target capacity additions in the US for that period, as announced at the EDP Group Capital Markets Day in May 2016.

Joâo Manso Neto, CEO of EDPR said: “This agreement will allow EDPR to continue to execute its growth strategy based on the development of competitive projects with long-term visibility”.

“Contracts like PPAs, in which EDPR is a pioneer in the United States, will also form part of the future energy landscape in Europe, where they are still in very early stages of development. We expect to see increasingly more agreements of this kind to benefit both energy producers and consumers” he concluded.
