EDP Renewables celebrates Global Wind Day at the Loma de Peñuelas Wind Farm in Cádiz, Spain

Institutions from Cádiz and towns surrounding the wind farm attended the event, together with families and schoolchildren from Vejer de la Frontera. Various activities took place at the event, including a magic show which revolved around the theme of energy, as well as kite flying and drawing competitions for children.

The event brought together various local authorities, such as José Manuel Miranda from the Regional Ministry of the Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment of the Regional Government of Andalusia in Cádiz, and the Mayor of Vejer de la Frontera, José Ortiz, together with 200 local schoolchildren. The open day was enlivened by a drawing contest for the little ones, theatre performances, a magic show which revolved around the theme of energy and a children's kite flying competition, among other activities.

The representative from the Regional Ministry of the Economy, Innovation, Science and Employment in Cádiz, José Manuel Miranda, stated: "Energy is an essential component for social and economic development. For several years now, the Regional Government of Andalusia has been committed to a new sustainable energy model based on efficient consumption and the use of renewable energies in Andalusia, allowing the diversification of the energy mix and minimising the emission of greenhouse gases. In fact, wind power generated by facilities in the province of Cádiz avoid the emission of almost one million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere". As regards the event, João Paulo Costeira, CEO of EDP Renewables Europe stated: "Thanks to open days like this one, we are able to showcase our activity in a fun and educational way to the public where we operate. Global Wind Day is key in itself for what it represents and for its support of initiatives like this one".
