On Friday, August 2, 22 EDP Renewables NA (EDPR NA) employees volunteered at the BARC Animal Shelter and Adoption Facility in Houston, Texas.

BARC is unique in that it is the only facility in Houston required by law to accept every animal that comes through its doors regardless of breed, temperament, health conditions, and other circumstances.

Avid dog lover and Technical Department Executive Assistant Kimberly Mitchell coordinated the event.  "I was very impressed with how well the facility was organized.  I wanted to volunteer at the BARC Animal Shelter because of my love for animals.  When I was at the shelter, I fell in love with a dog and almost took him home with me!" Mitchell said.

This event was one for cat and dog lovers alike.  The employees split into two groups for the day; one group was in charge of walking and playing with the dogs, and the second group socialized and played with the cats.

Investments and M&A Associate Beibei Zhang volunteered at the BARC Animal Shelter.  "I wanted to spend time with both the dogs and the cats.  After walking four dogs, I decided to go play with the cats.  One of the dogs I walked earlier in the day was already in his cage.  As I walked by, he jumped up, wagged his tail, and looked at me with those puppy eyes just begging me to walk him.  I just could not, not walk him!  So we ended up going for another walk," Zhang said.

The volunteer event at the BARC Animal Shelter and Adoption Facility was fun for all who attended.  The EDPR NA volunteers received positive feedback from the BARC staff members, and the volunteers enjoyed the time spent with the animals who call the facility home.
