On Saturday, August 23, a group of 10 EDPR NA employees, friends, and family members volunteered at the Houston Children's Charity's "Back 2 School" event.
This initiative provided children with new backpacks filled with necessary school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Before the event, EDPR NA collected more than $300 worth of school supplies that were distributed in the backpacks. On Saturday, volunteers stayed busy organizing the supplies at the Houston Children's Charity's warehouse and handing out backpacks to deserving families who waited in line.
Although this is the third consecutive year EDPR NA has participated in the event, employees still thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"It never gets old seeing the excitement on a child's face when they see us coming with a brand new backpack filled with school supplies," said Operations Coordinator and Volunteer Committee Co-Chairperson Claudia Zepeda.
The Houston Children's Charity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Greater Houston's underprivileged, abused, and disabled children who have been otherwise left behind. The organization's "Back 2 School" program has helped more than 14,850 children receive new backpacks and school supplies.
