Houston Employees Donate Books to Deserving Organizations

During the month of July, the EDPR NA Volunteer Committee coordinated a book drive in the Houston office.

The Committee asked employees to donate new and gently used books that would later be given to three local organizations: the Texas Children's Hospital, Reading Aces, and the Houston Center for Literacy. Employees also had the option of contributing cash, in which the Volunteer Committee used to purchase books.

Brand new children's books were donated to the Texas Children's Hospital. These new books help manage infection control with the Hospital's patients. New and gently used books for elementary-aged children were accepted for the Reading Aces organization, and mature reading level books were encouraged for the Houston Center for Literacy, as most of their students are adults.

A total of 416 books were donated: 46 new books to the Texas Children's Hospital, 204 gently used children's books to Reading Aces, and 166 gently used books to the Houston Center for Literacy.

The Volunteer Committee has already announced its August event: a "Back to School" supply drive, which will provide the necessary school supplies (book bags, pens, pencils, highlighters, paper, notebooks, scissors, glue sticks, etc.) to children in need. While this "Back to School" supply drive was launched in Houston, all EDPR NA offices are encouraged to coordinate similar events in their local communities.
