Last month, EDPR NA's Marble River Wind Farm hosted more than 60 5th grade students for an educational and entertaining day at its site in upstate New York.
The children spent the day learning about wind energy and visited multiple stations that taught them about turbine building; construction; flash suits and assorted tools and gear; development, permitting, and SCADA; and more. The kids were also treated to a delicious barbeque lunch.
The event would not have been possible without the help of several EDPR NA and Vestas employees. Attending the event from EDPR NA were Marble River Operations Manager Chris Blauvelt, Corporate Development Associate Chris Goldsberry, Marble River Site Lead Technician Jon LaBarre, Settlement Associate Karen Mayes, Marble River Field Technician James McNeil, and Marble River Operations Administrator Erika Nelson. Ryan Bergman and Matt Dupuis from Vestas also helped out.
"We had as good of a time hosting the event as the kids had attending it, and we already look forward to conducting this event again next year!" Nelson said.
Other North American sites, including Kittitas Valley and Pioneer Prairie/Prairie Star, have hosted similar events, and several other wind farms have similar events planned for later this year.
