A wind turbine made from recycled materials is named the winner of Wind Experts 2018

EDP Renováveis awarded first prize for its third annual Wind Experts contest to a group of sixth-year students from the CEIP Ildefonso Navarro primary school in Villamalea (Albacete).

Juan Fernando Sánchez Iniesta, EDPR’s representative in Castilla La Mancha, presented the award at the students’ school. The winning students received a commemorative trophy and a certificate, and will have the opportunity to visit an EDPR wind farm located in their province.

The students, aged between 10 and 13, designed their wind turbines with the support of a teacher from their school. The jury based their evaluation of the projects on images and videos that showed the students’ process in creating their prototypes.

The results of this third edition of the contest confirm the initiative’s excellent reception. This year, nearly 100 teams from 25 schools throughout Spain participated, representing a 26% increase in participation since last year.

According to João Manso Neto, CEO of EDP Renováveis, “These kinds of initiatives help new generations to be conscious of renewable energy and the importance of responsible energy consumption, emphasizing its benefits for sustainable development.”
