Citizens of the municipalities of Jandaíra and Parazinho enjoyed a variety of fresh products, including free-range eggs, cilantro, lettuce, arugula, carrots, squash, cassava, green beans, custard apples, acerola, umbu, seriguela and avocados.
These markets mark the beginning of the end for the project here, as the farmers involved have already undergone the bulk of their training. New farming structures have been installed and they have now begun production.
The program has made a profound difference in the lives of local families. They now enjoy a more varied and healthy diet and greater direct or indirect income, as well as subjective improvements such as higher expectations for their quality of life, increased self-esteem and enthusiasm about planning for a better future.
The EDP Rural initiative is a branch of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. It offers farmers and their families technical assistance and individual training, as well as support and development for local production associations in the areas where EDPR operates.
