For the sixth consecutive year, EDPR successfully participated in the BP MS 150.
The annual Houston-to-Austin bike ride is the one of the largest fundraisers supporting research and vital services for Multiple Sclerosis, a disabling disease that interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and can ultimately stop people from moving.
EDPR NA Team Captains Dan Reddin, Investment and M&A Associate, and Adam Renz, External Communications Associate, rallied interested riders to start training and fundraising in October 2013. Months of preparation led to the morning of Saturday, April 12, where 34 EDPR employees and friends started their 180-mile journey from Rhodes Stadium to the capital city of Texas.
"It was often difficult for the riders to wake up early on Saturday mornings for training rides, but these rides proved to be very helpful in building stamina to successfully conquer the hills between Houston and Austin," Reddin said.
Starting in Katy, Texas, cyclists rode to La Grange, Texas, where they enjoyed hot food and showers before turning in for the night in anticipation of an early morning. The next morning, cyclists biked from La Grange to Austin, Texas, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.
EDPR NA volunteers transported bikes, attended to luggage, set up camp in La Grange and the post-race tent in Austin, and cheered the team along throughout the two-day event.
Claudia Zepeda, Operations Coordinator, led the volunteer coordination.
"My friends/colleagues continue to amaze me with their dedication to this cause! Volunteering this year meant a little more to me since my 35-year-old cousin was diagnosed with MS recently," Zepeda said.
So far, Team EDPR has raised almost $21,000 this year, 84% of the way toward the team's $25,000 goal. If you would like to make a donation to the team's efforts, please contact Dan Reddin.
Thank you to all who rode in, volunteered at, or donated to the annual BP MS 150 event.
