On Friday, March 23, 2012 employees from EDPR NA's Corporate Office based in Houston, Texas planted trees at Shepherd Park through the non-profit organization Trees for Houston. Tress for Houston's organization is committed to planting, protecting, and promoting trees in the Greater-Houston area.
The event was promoted internally through EDPR NA's Employee Volunteer Program which organizes monthly employee volunteer activities . "One of the committee's first events was with Trees for Houston," said Maya Nissim from EDPR NA's Performance Management Group. "We were excited for the opportunity to work with them again."
Employees unloaded trees before attending a short tree planting training conducted by the non-profit's organizers. The volunteer group planted a mixture of Black Gum, Sycamore, and Mexican Plum Trees. In two hours volunteers planted nearly forty trees.
Emily Hardy, EDPR NA's Energy Assessment Associate, enjoyed the hard work. "An elderly couple who live near the park even came over to show their support," said Hardy. "They were thrilled that we were working hard to make the park a better place."
"In general, I don't think it could have been a more perfect day to plant trees," said Nissim. "The weather was beautiful and the park looked great once we were done."
