EDPR North America Cycles for a Cause, Raises Money

With upwards of 11,000 participants, the annual Houston-to-Austin bike ride is one of the largest fundraisers supporting research and vital services for Multiple Sclerosis, a disabling disease that interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and can ultimately stop people from moving.

Months of training and preparation led to the morning of Saturday, April 16, where EDPR NA employees and friends started their journey from Rhodes Stadium in west Houston.  Unfortunately, due to inclement weather forecasted in Central Texas, the finish line was moved from Austin to La Grange, the midpoint of the ride and location of the overnight campgrounds.

Despite the change in plans, riders made their way from Houston to a triumphant crossing of the finish line, and on to the team tent for food and massages, before heading home a day early.

The event would not be possible without the help of valuable volunteers, including several from EDPR NA, who supplied food, transported bikes, attended to luggage, set up the post-race tent in La Grange, took photos, and cheered on the team.  This year the volunteers also prepared a delicious homemade send-off breakfast and helped would-be-stranded EDPR riders make it back to Houston!

So far in 2016, Team EDP Renewables has raised more than $32,000, increasing its contribution by several thousand dollars from 2015.  Additionally, many of our Houston-based employees took part in a very successful bake sale in order to raise money for the team.
