As part of the “Green Education” program from EDP Renováveis in collaboration with the local government of Montalegre, six scholarships were granted to students from the municipality, amounting to a total of €5,500.
Lobo Gonçalves, the country manager for Portugal, attended the ceremony accompanied by the local mayor, Orlando Alves. According to Lobo Gonçalves: “This award is for students with limited financial resources who live in municipalities where we are developing wind farms. We want to contribute to the development of education and encourage the region’s success. It’s a way to engage with people in the areas where EDPR is active. Education is the key to society’s future.”
These awards are given to the best students at various educational levels who come from low-income families. The scholarships are granted on the basis of familiar income per capita and the students’ academic performance, whether at the elementary, middle or upper level. The selection of Montalegre is linked directly to one of EDPR’s social responsibility principles, which calls for social development in the areas where the company’s activities take place.
The awards ceremony took place in the town hall, where the students receive their diplomas under the proud gaze of their parents.
